Why is testing useful?
If diagnosed early, many prostate cancers grow slowly and don’t cause any significant problems in men who have them.
How common is prostate cancer?
Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in Canada. It is also one of the leading causes of cancer death among men of all races.
Why is PSA important?
A blood test for a prostate specific antigen (PSA) measures the level of PSA in the blood. PSA is a substance made by the prostate. The levels of PSA in the blood can be higher in men who have prostate cancer.
