Register and Book a Male Fertility Test

Registering as a patient with FlowLabs is the first step to booking specialized male fertility testing in Ontario (or anywhere in Canada, if you’re ordering a mail-in semen analysis kit). Once registered, you can order your test, upload your documents, and schedule your appointment.

Whether you’ve been referred for testing or are just getting started, the process is designed to be simple, secure, and easy to follow.

How to Book Your Male Fertility Test

1. Register and confirm your requisition details

Enter your name, contact information, patient details, and insurance information and confirm your requisition details.

2. Submit your requisition and select your test(s)

Upload your requisition and choose the fertility test(s) listed on your requisition.

3. Order a sample collection kit (if needed)

Depending on your appointment type, you will either get a sample collection kit in advance (for drop-off appointments) or be provided with a sample collection kit at the time of your appointment (for on-site appointments).

4. Receive your kit (if applicable)

If receiving a sample collection kit in advance for a drop-off appointment, you can either pick it up from a FlowLabs location (no appointment necessary) or have it shipped to you for a small fee.

5. Book your appointment

Once registered, log in to schedule your appointment. Please allow up to 72 hours after registering to receive a confirmation email before booking your appointment. There are two appointment types: a drop-off appointment, where you receive a collection kit beforehand, collect your sample at home, and drop it off to us during a specified timeslot, or an on-site appointment, where you receive the collection kit at the time of your appointment, collect your sample on site and hand it in immediately afterwards.

6. Provide your sample for testing

For drop-off appointments, follow the instructions in the kit to collect your sample, then drop it off to a FlowLabs location within an hour of collection, keeping it at body temperature from the time of collection until drop off. For on-site appointments, you will receive a collection kit at the time of your appointment, collect your sample on site in a private, soundproof collection room, and hand it in immediately afterwards.

7. Receive your results

After the sample is analyzed, confidential results are shared with your clinician (and you, if registered for MyChart). Turnaround times for each test type are listed below under FAQs.

Basic personal and contact details
A valid, signed lab requisition for fertility testing from a healthcare provider
Your provincial health card or insurance information

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a requisition to book a fertility test?

Yes. You need a requisition from a licensed healthcare practitioner to complete testing. If you don’t have one, you can book a virtual consultation at no cost to you through FlowTelehealth or download a blank requisition form for your healthcare practitioner to complete.

We accept requisitions from anywhere in Canada, but if your requisition is from an out-of-province practitioner, you will need to pay for testing out of pocket, or obtain an Ontario requisition in order to be covered.

Can I book male fertility testing without OHIP?

Yes. If you don’t have OHIP coverage, you can upload alternative insurance information or proceed with payment as required.

How do I book an appointment after registering?

Once registered, you can log in to your patient account and book your appointment online at your preferred FlowLabs location.

How long does it take to get my test results back?

Once your sample arrives at the lab, results are typically sent to your clinician (and you, if registered for MyChart) within the following timeframes:

Semen analysis and post-ejaculation urine (PEU) tests: 5–7 business days
DFI and aneuploidy tests: 3 weeks
Post-vasectomy tests: 10 business days

How do I access my results after the test?

Results will be sent to your clinician directly. If you are registered for MyChart (which you can sign up for through the patient portal), you will receive them as well.

What types of male fertility tests can I book?

FlowLabs currently offers 5 different male fertility testing options in Ontario: semen analysis, sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI), post-ejaculation urine (PEU), post-vasectomy, and sperm aneuploidy. We also offer a mail-in semen analysis testing kit, which is available across Canada.

What’s the difference between a drop-off appointment and an on-site appointment?

In a drop-off appointment, patients order or pick up a collection kit beforehand and collect the sample at home, then drop it off to us during a specified appointment time. The sample must be produced within an hour of the appointment and kept at body temperature until it is dropped off.

In an on-site appointment, patients receive the collection kit at the time of their appointment and produce their sample in a private, soundproof collection room at the FlowLabs location.
