Post-Vasectomy Sperm Test in Ontario

A post-vasectomy sperm test is used to confirm that no sperm remain in the semen following a vasectomy procedure. This test is required to ensure the procedure was successful before discontinuing other forms of contraception.

Testing is typically completed at least 3 months and approximately 25 to 30 ejaculations after a vasectomy, based on your physician’s recommendation. All testing is performed in our specialized lab led by experts in male reproductive health.

What This Test Evaluates

  • Motility of the sperm, if present

Your results will indicate whether sperm are still present in your semen. A clear result confirms that the vasectomy was successful. If sperm are still detected, your clinician may recommend repeat testing or further follow-up.
